The project entitled “Examining the Presence and Behavior of Poly- and Per-Fluorinated Alkyl Substances in Different Environmental Matrices and Conducting Risk Assessment” is supported by TÜBİTAK 1001 – Scientific and Technological Research Projects Support Program. Within the project, the environmental situation of the Küçük Menderes Basin, where there is serious pressure in terms of water pollution, will be analyzed for per and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) that are used intensively in agricultural and industrial production. Levels of PFAS compounds will be determined in surface and subsurface waters, in inlet and outlet of wastewater treatment plants, in river sediments as well as in air and soil matrices. With the data obtained, the health risks of PFAS compounds arising from different matrices will be determined and the cumulative risk assessment will be conducted. Additionally, the relationship between industry in the study area and PFAS compounds will be examined.
The project started in November 2024 and is planned to be completed in May 2027.
